I've not seen reader stay to any site or blog for more then few seconds or minutes if it does not have a good look and has a good contents. Nobody like ugly looks you know, it's simple.
People come to your site or blog for contents but before they reach to your contents what they see is look or layout of the page.
Search some really niche templates and swap it with your blog.
